No BS! Brass at the Charlottesville Pavilion

Tonight, No BS! Brass storms the nTelos Wireless Pavilion in Charlottesville, VA. This is surely one of the most beautiful venues in the state and the Wahoo fans always treat us well. Before and after the gig, we’ll be record shopping, dumpling and crepe scarfing and local brew sampling. See y’all tonight! Also, RVA, don’t forget that our own John Hulley leads his group, Brunswick, at the Cellar Door later tonight.

Hopscotch 2012

The line-up for Hopscotch Festival 2012 has just been announced. Last year, Fight the Big Bull played a set and got to watch the Flaming Lips from our hotel room. This year, three RVA bands, Matthew E. White: One  Incantation Under God, No BS! Brass and Bio Ritmo will descend on Raleigh, NC for a weekend of great music and all-out hang-outs. Being a member of the first two bands and a former member of the third, I can’t wait for September.

Here’s a video recap of last year:

No BS! Brass + James River HS

This Friday brings back one of my favorite gigs of the year. Every April, around this time, the James River HS Jazz Band opens up for No BS! Brass at The Camel. The JRHSB has been under my direction for 6 years now and has performed all over the state of VA. We’ll be playing the music of Duke Ellington, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Clifford Brown, Thelonious Monk and my arrangement of Radiohead’s ‘Paranoid Android.’ I hope y’all can make it out!
